Sands of Time

Wasn’t it just yesterday when we thought our days would never end?
When we thought that we owned time and age was still our friend?
And we finally found our feet for walking out our dreams
And life rolled out it’s carpet and opened its arms wide…
Just yesterday, it seems.

But all along the sands of time keep falling one by one
Without our even noticing the changes have come
And youthfulness is giving way, ‘cause time is not our own
And the frailty of humanity comes so very close to home.

Looking back at yesterday when we thought our days would never end
What we didn’t realize is that our lives are only just on lend.
And as we bid farewell to those who’ve run the course of time
A longing deep within us makes us search our souls to see just what we find.

And as the sands of time keep falling down and day slips into year
We cannot help but ask ourselves why we’re really here.
And as we join up with our futures will our pasts speak of us well?
Will our lives have made a difference? I guess only time will tell.

The rhyme and the reason are often unclear
And questions are begging for answers to hear

And as the sands of time keep falling down and day slips into year
The hand of Heaven’s Maker reaches out to draw us near
And if we dare allow ourselves the license to take hold
We will head into tomorrow holding to the hand of hope.
